Kids come from Metro Detroit

How are you making a difference in Detroit today?
Our Mission
The B.A.L.L. Foundation’s mission is to create social and life-changing experiences for youth ages 7-17 by providing a learning environment that enhances life skills through the influence of basketball. Through basketball camps, lectures and training classes, children are equipped with essential life skills that are instrumental in addressing core problems by maintaining good health, education and self-esteem.

Good Health Initiatives
Addresses the problem of child-hood obesity faced by urban youth. The program provides customized plans for diet, nutrition, and exercise.

Finance Initiatives
Discuss finances with our youth. Knowing how to manage your finance at an early age will be very beneficial to our youth. We discuss items from budgeting, how to balance a checking account to what stocks are included on the US major stock market.

Education Initiatives
Self-esteem initiatives address life-enrichment areas that most children are not exposed to at an early age. Activities such as etiquette training and ball room-dancing are offered to help children realize their potential to become well-rounded individuals. Customized education module also includes lessons in strengthening math and reading skills.

Bridging the Gap Initiatives
Education initiatives focus on helping children with academic problems. Customized education module also includes lessons in strengthening math and reading skills.

What have been some of your proudest accomplishments through your work in your community?
1. The Excellence Under 40 luncheon where we honored 4 young people under the age of 40 that are making a difference in the community. Our guest speaker, Jason Wiley is also under the age of 40 and is now Vice President of Marketing for the Philadelphia 76ers.

2. Social/Etiquette Dinner – we took twelve young men to the Skyline Club where they participated in a 90 minute sessions learning the etiquette of social media and the etiquette of table manners. Subsequent to the workshop the young men had the opportunity to enjoy a 4 course meal where they put their learned skills into practice.

3. Our health and wellness program where we teach across Metro Detroit the health risk they take by choosing the wrong foods and beverages. We end the session allowing the kids to create a vision board where they choose how they are going to make good food and beverage choices

What have been your top lessons learned through your work in your community?
There are kids at every economic level that need to understand their health is something they have control over and their choices impact their school and social life.BALL 3 1024
